Color Throwdown Wednesday

Hi everyone! I have a late entry to the Color Throwdown today...I waited until the last minute to make my card then realized that I had a dentist appointment last night and when I came home all numb and drooling it wasn't really conducive to making one. So I whipped this up this afternoon since I am home with a little sickie. Although he's been bouncing off the the walls for a few hours now so I think he's feeling better!

This lovely color combo is brought to us today by LeAnne! Here is used an image from Magenta that I purchase in the fall at a stamp show that took place locally. It was the first time I ever got to see Magenta stamps at one of these shows and it was fantastic because I just love their images! I met and spoke with owner/artist Nathalie Metivier and she is so sweet, not to mention talented!

I stamped the image in white pigment ink and embossed with white ep on Mellow Moss paper. I added a flat backed pearl in each corner. The Razzleberry layer was punched with a Martha Stewart set. I weaved a PTI ribbon through the scallops across the top and finished with a button I bought at Jo-Anns.

Come visit us at the Color Throwdown to see all the designers samples and play along!

Hummingbird Birthday

You know when you see an image that you just HAVE to have? Yeah, this is one of those. I am a big fan of Magenta (while you can't shop from their website you can view some beautiful cards in their gallery) images and when I saw a sample they had on their site with this image I had to have it! I only used it once when I got it and then unfortunately, along with many of my wood mounted stamps, it got tucked away and forgotten about. I have so many that I really need to revisit.

I used this image to make a birthday card. It is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on PTI Kraft paper and colored with Prisma's and OMS. I found this gorgeous magenta colored Prism paper that matched the equally gorgeous Eva paper from Basic Grey. I used a Nestie to cut the rectangle scallop and the tag which is stamped with a sentiment from MFT Icing on the Cake set. The flowers are from the Bridal dept in Michaels and I colored them with a Copic and added a button and thread. They are really a nice soft lime green. The colors are little funky here and no matter what I did I just couldn't get them right. The whole card is a bit softer irl. As a finishing touch I highlighted some areas with a Sakura Stardust pen which you can see in the first picture. I have to use this stamp more often!

Valentines for a good cause

Hi~

Today I just want to share a few Valentines I have been working on. I am trying to get at least a dozen done to send to Pat Adam's cause for the children at Children's Hospital of Michigan. Pat was given a very tall request by the administrator there. She asked if Pat could come up with 1,000 valentines for the kids to swap with each other and give to parents and staff.

I got this information from Curt O'Brien's blog Curt's World. Check out his wonderful Valentines he is contributing to this cause and the very generous blog candy he is giving away to one lucky contributor! If you would like to help with this project, please send Pat an email letting here know that you want to help. You can get the details here: Pat Adam. You can send her an email at mrsmiley6@aol.com.

Okay, I said my goal was a dozen cards...and here's what I have so far to contribute.

This image is from Magenta.

This super cute froggy is from Inky Antics.

This lovey giraffe is from Great Impressions.

I will also be donating the Valentine's cards that I have posted here and here and on older posts here and here. If anyone wants details about any of the cards please let me know and I will email them to you! I hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Here's looking at you, kitties and a little photo help, maybe?

First an explanation-skip it if you just want to see the picture!

I may know why my pictures couldn't be clicked on for a larger view...wow, that was mouthful "couldn't be clicked on"...I don't even think that's proper grammar, ok whatever.

Your card is great! You always do great coloring! Thanks for the blog candy heads up too! And, regarding your photos not being able to enlarge - me and my DH were looking at that again just last night....some of my photos do and some don't and I only save them and take them one way so we are both stumped. If I find out why this happens, I will let ya'll know!!TFS!!Bev

So last night I opened the photo of the mouse card in the previous post and changed the size from 10x7.5ish to 10x15ish. I like to use exact measurements! Anyway, what I mean is that I use Photoshop Elements to do all of my photo editing and when I resize for my blog I always set the DPI at 72 (low resolution for screen viewing) and change the size of the larger side of the photo (sometimes it's the length, sometimes height) to 10 inches. Since I have the resizer set to keep in proportion doing this automatically changes the other side of the photo to keep in line with the 10 inches? Get it? For example:

Original photo is 30 x 50 ( I shoot with a 10 mega pixel camera so my shots are large). I select resize and I change the 50 inch side to 10 inches. The 30 inch size automatically changes to 7.5 inches. I just made up these numbers so don't shoot me if the match ain't right, ok? Whew, ok.

Now I reopened the mouse card photo and changed the 7.5 inch side to 10 inches and that automatically resized the 10 inch side to 15 inches. Now I have a photo sized 15x10 inches instead of 10x7.5 inches. Then I replaced the photo on my blog with this new larger sized one...same size on the screen, but when you click on it you now see the larger version.

Is this it? Did I figure out the mystery of the non-enlarging photo (there goes my grammar again...)? I have no idea, but it worked. When I have a chance I am going to go back to some previous posts where this happened and see if I can fix those too.

Okay on to todays card!

I was turned on to a blog all about Copics...that's right, "Everything you always wanted to know about Copics but were afraid to ask". Sorry, I think I slipped into the 70's there...and I am not even that old! Yet. Anyway this fantastic blog is I Like Markers and is chock full of fabulous information and tutorials. It's a great reference and if you want to get better with your Copics (or just learn how to use/buy them) it doesn't get any better than this imho! With that being said...

This adorable Stamps by Judith cats image was colored with none other than, you guessed it, Copics! I purchased some Neenah Solar Crest White Ultra Smooth cardstock (wait, this one was a mouthful!!) to try out with my Copics. I bought it on a recommendation so tested it by stamping in three different black inks, Memories Dye ink, Adirondack Pitch Black Dye ink, and Ranger Distress ink in Black Soot. Let all three dry thoroughly (actually didn't get back to them for coloring until the next day!) and they all worked beautifully. No smearing or blurring with any color or any amount of coloring over them. I still really love my PTI white cardstock for the Copics to so I am not using one over the other...it's just another option. Anyway, all of the colored cardstock is PTI and the fish bones are a stamp from a Magenta clear set. I used a very simple layout..I tend to like clean and simple, and whimsical apparently because I do use a lot of whimsical images. The great twill ribbon is also from PTI as is the ink in both Lemon Tart and Summer Sunrise (to match the cardstock) and a few brads to finish it off. I also lightly distressed and inked the edges of the fish stamped panel.

Stamps: Cats-Stamps by Judith; Fish Bones-Magenta
Ink: Memories Black Dye, PTI Colormatch-Lemon Tart and Summer Sunrise
Accessories: Copic markers, PTI ribbon, Nestabilities, round punch, brads

Hope everyone has a great day!
