Fall with Flourishes

Today I’ve used an image from one of my favorite new stamp sets, A Season of Thanks.   I love the fall and rich warm tones of the season.

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Flourishes Classic White card stock and colored it with Copics.  It was shaded with a Versa Magic Dew Drop in Wheat while still in the die.  The Spellbinders dies used at Standard Circles large, Lacey Circles, and Fancy Tags Two.  I ran a piece of twill through the tag die and added Kaiser adhesive pearls to the corners of the floral panel.  All of the patterned paper is from the MME All Spice 6x6 pad.   I’m not a die layering kinda girl…I think when other people do it, it looks great, but I’m not so confident.  I was afraid the lacey circle and swirly tag were competing with each other so I kept the embellishments simple.  But then again, I always do, don’t I?  Too safe maybe?  Ah, I’m a simple girl!

My favorite season!

Yes, fall is coming…and with that is Thanksgiving!  Yum!  Today’s Flourishes set is all about thanks!  A Season of Thanks that is!

I love all of the images in this set, but this one might be my favorite.  There’s just something about Indian corn that makes me smile!  It was such a classic decoration that was always on my grandparents front door for the fall holidays and not one that I find many people using today.  I love the warm fuzzy feeling that it gives me.  I can’t wait to buy it and put it on my front door!

It’s stamped on Flourishes Classic White card stock and colored with Copics.  I really enjoyed coloring this image!  I love bittersweet vine and it looks so pretty with the corn.  There was some growing wild around the corner from me, but with a big tree that came down in the hurricane it looks like it took the vine with it.   I’m thinking that I should be seeing it by now, but I’ll keep looking and hoping!
I used Spellbinders Classic Ovals and Classic Scallop Oval LG to cut out the image and the mat.  I used the Ribbon Banner for the sentiment.  The sentiment is actually convex (curving down) but I placed it on the acrylic block reversing the curve so that it would fit nicely into the banner that I wanted to use.    My ribbon is May Arts crocheted trimmed velvet ribbon and it is a perfect companion to this warm fall image and the paper from the Memory Box Twiggy pack.   A few simple embellishments were adhesive gems and a button and rustic twine.  Voila!

One more Thanksgiving card

Please excuse this poor excuse for a bow! It really didn't look that bad irl, and since it's already been mailed their ain't no going back to fix it. It really looks terrible in this photo, oh well!

The image on the other hand is stinkin' cute! I love this squirrel from Whipper Snapper! He's stamped on Neenah Solar Crest White Ultra Smooth card stock and colored with Copics. I inked around the main panel with a sponge and Distress Ink in Brushed Corduroy. The dp is from Nutmeg from the Cosmo Cricket mini deck. Love it! I used an acorn punch and two different scraps of card stock to make my acorn that adorns my awful bow...which is PTI ribbon.

On this inside of the card I wrote "is it Thanksgiving already?!" I'll be back tomorrow for the weekly Color Throwdown. Have a great day!

My favorite scarecrow

It truly is my favorite scarecrow stamp image. There are lots of cute ones, and I own a few, but I always come back to this guy.


This Whipper Snapper Friendly Scarecrow is stamped on Neenah Solar Crest White Ultra Smooth card stock and colored with Copics. I used a piece of Cosmo Cricket Nutmeg dp with woodgrain on top of a Bazzill card stock mat. The same mat paper I used under the main image panel and punch the edge with the new Martha Stewart loops punch set. I cut two small leaves from Prism card stock using the Nesties Leaf dies. They are lightly sponged on the edges like the main image panel. I adhered them with a fall brad with I think came from the $1 spot in Target and some twine from PTI. The sentiment is from the Anna Wight set Harvest Blessings.

It's a recipe from High Hopes

This weeks High Hopes challenge brought to us by Karen is a recipe: use three flowers, two brads, and a sentiment on your card.



I used the image Tom's Plea stamped on Kraft paper with Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Copics. It's the first time I have used them on Kraft paper...not as vibrant but still worked lovely. I punched three flowers with a Marvy punch and added a smaller punched flower with a brad in the center of each. I also added a brad in the center of a punched circle on the top and bottom left side corners but they are kind of difficult to see against the paper. The adorable patterned paper is from Reminisce...turkeys on one side and turkey legs on the other. I know it's a bit morbid, but I couldn't resist displaying some of those turkey legs, yum!

High Hopes Challenge #52

Good morning! Hope the weekend has been great so far! Yesterday I attended the Greater New York Stamp show held in Smithtown Long Island, NY with some friends and I got to meet Jodi Collins (aka Kharmagirl) whose blog I am quite familiar with! She's a doll and it was so much fun to chat with her and her lovely friends! Waving to Jodi and Dina!! Of course I spent a lot of money too! Motivet and Magenta both had booths there and my wallet definitely got lighter after visiting those! On to this weeks High Hopes Challenge!

This week the challenge was a sketch hosted by Lacey!


I had colored these pilgrims up a month or so ago but hated that their outfits were all black and boring! That's probably just how they looked but I didn't want to use them after I was done. When I came across them last week I knew I would be able to put them to use. I added some color with the apples and pumpkin and a bit of glitter. I paired them up with this fun paper from Debbie Mum and a few accessories and voila! They are just too cute!

Fall into Autumn with High Hopes!

We are back from our summer vacation with High Hopes Challenge #43, Fall in Autumn. I have two cards to share from the new released images from High Hopes. The first is this adorable Pilgrim Pair. They are so sweet and friendly-join them won't you? The are stamped on Neenah Solar Crest White Ultra Smooth cardstock and colored with Copics. The other cardstock is both PTI and Bazzill. The design paper is from Fancy Pants. I used a Spellbinder tag die to make the Happy Thanksgiving tag, sponged it, and added some PTI ribbon.


This next image is the large turkey from High Hopes...isn't he cute! Make's you want to have tofurkey for Thanksgiving right? No, me neither... Anyway, he was stamped and colored twice and just his body cut out and popped up over the main image.

I stamped him on the same paper as the pilgrims and also used Copics to color him up. I also used the Oak Corner and Oak Border as accents. I love those! The cardstock here is Prism and the design paper is from Scenic Route. I used a zig zag stitch to attach the main image to the mat and a tiny bow under the Oak Corner to finish it off. I also embossed Gobble Gobble to make it stand out more on the patterned paper.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I have a few quick projects to share that I meant to post this morning but I got on a roll with errands and such and forgot. First I tried out the Criss Cross card technique I found here on SCS. Beate has such great tutorials! These are thank you cards I made for Joeys kindergarten teachers. He had a bit of a rough time adjusting to a large class and they helped us to help him get more comfortable and really enjoy school. He is in a dual language program which means the entire kindergarten curriculum is taught in both english and spanish through 5th grade (if he chooses to remain in it that long). It's great for him because he's kinda smart and gets bored easily! I just wanted them both to know that my hubby and I appreciate their extra effort to transition Joey into kindergarten.

The next are a votive holder that I made for my sil whose house we are going to for thanksgiving dinner. I got the idea from Lisa over at Poppy Paperie. It's filled with river rocks and a few scented pine cones. My votives/holders was either larger than hers or my tin is smaller so I could only fit two, but it's still pretty and smells really good!

The last are my turkey fry boxes. I made 6 of them to fill with candy and give to the kids on thanksgiving. I would have loved to make one for each person but my sil informed me that there will be no less than 22 persons in attendance...glad I'm not cooking!! I used different punches to create the turkey including a maple leaf for his tail. The box is a die from Sizzix. His eyes I made with a black gelly roll pen. I love these little guys!

Well, off to bed! Me, hubby, and the boys are headed into NYC in the morning for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. I can't recall that I have ever been to the parade although I don't live that far from the city that I shouldn't be there at least once! I don't do well in crowds ;)

A Cute Pair

I've really been slacking on my fall/Thanksgiving cards...not just posting, but getting them done at all! I better finish up and get them mailed out this week. I know all my friends and family are waiting eagerly for their cards! I used the adorable Whipper Snapper set Harvest Blessings
designed by the very talented Anna Wight! I love her artwork! And I just adore this girl scarecrow from the flower in her hat to the lace trim on her dress!

I decided to go a with non-traditional colors for both. The first one I thought I'd go really girly and use pink. I wasn't really thrilled with the results at first, but it's growing on me. I used Basic Grey Urban Prairie dp on both cards, Nesties for the image and scallop frame, and both are colored with Copics. Her dress and pockets are paper pieced. The flowers are Primas, the bottom ones with copper brads and the top have copper Stickles in the center. The leaves and ferny thing are punches.

In addition to the Urban Prairie dp I also used turquoise Bazzill cs on this card. The flower is a large Prima folded in half with a circle punched out and also folded for the center. I added a little Stickles to that as well. Dew Drops and ribbon finish off this one.
